Diversity and Social Justice in Picture Books

In our opening meetings prior to school starting, Dr. Warren provided the Lower School teachers with the opportunity to pour over stacks and stacks of excellent, well-reviewed, well-regarded picture books covering important topics such as LGBTQ+ families, gender differences, stories from all over the world, biographies of change-makers, and social justice.  Thanks to her curated list of titles and the time devoted to being able to read and share about them, Lower School teachers now have new material to enrich and enliven their curriculum, as well as ideas for books that may help introduce or reinforce conversations about diversity and social-emotional learning. Thank you, Dr. Warren, for these books available for teachers to borrow from the Professional Development collection of the Town School Library.
