Welcome to the Town School Library!

Librarians:

We are Julie Alonso and Kim Stuart.

Ms. Alonso will be at the Marina campus all week except Wednesdays. She teaches library classes to grades K - 2. On Wednesdays she will be at the Jackson campus helping Upper School boys check out books. Please reach her at alonso@townschool.com.

Ms. Stuart will be at the Marina campus Tuesdays and Thursdays and the Jackson campus Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She teaches library classes to grades 3 and 4, Digital Literacy to grade 5, and Information Literacy to grade 6. Please reach her at stuart@townschool.com.

Even though we are librarians, we don't just deal with books! We support learners in making and using information in all forms. Click on the picture below to learn more about teacher librarians:

Two Campuses:

The Town School Library is on two campuses this year. You can find us on the Mezzanine of the Marina Campus and on the first floor of the Jackson Campus.

The Marina Campus holds the majority of our collection this year. Our picture books, early chapter books, fiction and non-fiction books, parenting and professional collection, audiobooks and DVDs can be found on this campus.

The Jackson Campus holds our Young Adult collection of fiction, non-fiction, audio books, and graphic novels. Since the YA collection is for 6-8th graders only, we also have a collection of books available for 5th grade. Additionally, 5th graders will pilot test our eBook program, which offers popular titles accessible on iPads and other eReader devices. All Marina Campus resources will be available via email request and by placing a hold on our online catalog, as well as, of course, in person.

Library Shelving System:

Click here to read more about our organizational system

Our library books are cataloged and shelved using a categorical word-based system, rather than the Dewey Decimal system. This way, we can group books by curricular topic and interest. Our fiction books (Picture Books, Early Fiction, Fiction, and YA) are sorted by genre.

This search for "dog" yielded 434 results, the first 10 of which are:

Under the book title and author is the call number (spine label) of the book. This is an example of our word-based system.

Library Catalog Destiny Quest:

Search for materials online by title, author or keyword at https://townschool.follettdestiny.com

Sign in to DestinyQuest using your user name and password. Once signed in, you can place holds on books, renew books, check to see what you have checked out, review books, recommend books, and more.  Parents, please ask about your user name and password!

Each campus has a self-checkout station. If you do not know how to check out a book by yourself and would like to learn, please ask or follow these simple instructions

Here are some tutorials you may find useful.
