Dear Reader,

We celebrated Poetry Month this year by learning about different types of poems and elements of poetry. Here is an overview of the types of poems you will find in this anthology:

· Acrostic: Each line begins with a letter that spells a thematic word vertically

· Free Verse: These poems don’t necessarily rhyme, but they are focused on one topic

· Haiku: These Japanese poems are short and rhythmic, following a pattern of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables

· Shape: These poems take the shape of their topic

· Rebus: These include pictures in the place of words

We decided to write poems about our fascinating studies in science: space! We hope that as you read these poems, you enjoy your journey through the Solar System!
